Education and workshops

Education

Sheep Town Theatre Company’s classically trained professional actors give you the benefit of their experience in a series of classes for both adults and children. Our actors are experienced workshop leaders and are fully trained and qualified teachers.

Sheep Town Lambs is our youth theatre group, 7 to 17, in which we offer an introduction to the performing arts with practical classes which intend to develop not only the acting skills of a young performer but also their confidence and presentation. Our aim for Sheep Town Lambs is to offer a fun and interesting series of classes in performing arts for young people.

Sheep Town Rams is our adult theatre group, 17+. The Rams’ gives you the opportunity to experience Drama School training. All our tutors are Drama School trained with professional experience and use their experiences to deliver a series of classes that replicate those offered by the top Drama Schools in the country. The Rams offers its members the chance to gain experience in the various methods of acting training and techniques such as Stanislavski, Adler and Strasburg as well as other disciplines such as improvisation and mime. This course can be taken purely for pleasure or with a goal to attend a Drama School or turn professional.

The work created in these workshops is shared with an audience in the form of a showcase which is open to a number of invited agents and casting directors, this offers the Rams and Lambs the very real possibility of taking what they have learned in to the professional environment if so desired. We also offer the chance to appear in a Sheep Town production at The Mart Theatre.

The classes are at The Mart Theatre and begin on Tuesday 16th January running for ten weeks. The Lambs’ runs between 5.30 to 6.30 and the Rams’ 7pm to 8.30pm. Each class costs £5 or the full ten week course can be purchased for £45.

Workshops

As well as the Lambs and Rams, Sheep Town also offers one off workshops in various disciplines and techniques which are open to the general public. Many of these are taught by experienced professionals in that field. Some of the workshops we offer include; TV and Film acting, mime, mask, voice, accents and dialects, stand-up comedy, improvisation, script writing and working with Shakespeare.

Sheep Town also offers workshops to schools and colleges in support of their curriculum including Shakespeare workshops. For more information or a tailor-made workshop to suit your curriculum please don’t hesitate to click here to contact us.

Business and corporate training

Sheep Town Education offers it’s own new and original take on training for businesses. The areas we cover include customer service, team building, presentation, public speaking and confidence. Above all we look at boosting a company’s or team's morale regardless of the thrust or focus of our workshops. As well as the conventional role-playing type workshops, Sheep Town specialises in stand-up comedy and comedy improvisation workshops. Our workshops offer a less formal and more fun way to develop your staff’s skills.

Stand-up Comedy workshop

In our stand-up workshop we encourage our learners to write, develop and then share with the rest of the group their material. This workshop encourages the learners to use their initiative and encourages creative thinking. It also helps develop their confidence, presentation and public speaking skills.

Comedy Improvisation

The comedy impro workshops focus more on the group rather that the individual and encourages teamwork. The workshop uses the Throwaway Theatre model, which involves taking the day’s newspapers, and through a variety of exercises and adding random factors the group will create pieces of comedy performance. It also develops the same areas of as our stand-up workshop including, confidence, public speaking and morale.
